Ford Motor Company is doing something that has never been done before. On July 26, Ford will be hosting an online event to unveil the new 2011 Ford Explorer—on Facebook.
With the help of Mike Rowe of the Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs series, Ford will use Facebook as the platform to reveal the new 2011 Ford Explorer on July 26, marking the first time that any big-name automaker reveals a vehicle outside of the typical auto show setting. The online event will feature videos of the 2011 Ford Explorer, some of which will be designed to recreate the experience of walking around an auto show.
The event is part of a comprehensive online strategy to promote Ford’s new vehicles. Scott Monty, Ford’s head of social media, isn’t revealing the other components of their strategy just yet, but Ford has made it obvious that they are taking advantage of online opportunities to reveal a new and different 2011 Explorer in a new and exciting way.
The 2011 Ford Explorer offers many features that distinguish it from past Explorer models. For example, the 2011 Explorer will be one of the first to include MyFord Touch, plus a number of additional driver safety features and an optional EcoBoost engine for 30% better fuel economy.
